THE DEARS Release ‘To Hold And Have’ Video

Montréal duo, The Dears, return with bold artistic moves, taking on infinity itself in ambitious double album concept.

Celebrating the release of the first of this two-part project, Times Infinity Volume One, the couple unveiled a video for single To Hold And Have, and frankly, I’m not quite sure we’re having it.

Though the sound has a potential, at least as the soundtrack to a 50’s film, the attempt falls completely apart in its own hazy illusion. The introvert tune strongly circles around Murray Lightburn’s vocals, and as his face fades in and out of the absurd frame the soppy melody and unengaging lyrics have you asleep within the second chorus. The video itself is a weird planetarium assembling some kind of VHS tape-like universe and has nothing to add to the artistry what so ever.

Lightburn says of the project:

Putting these two records together was like solving a puzzle: Volume One was about finding the edge pieces while Volume Two was about the middle pieces. It was very difficult to wrap one’s head around at first, but by the end of production, it just became easier and easier. It’s a metaphor for life, and our life’s story.

So far, it seems like that puzzle should have stayed in its box.

The Dears are set to return to the road for the first time in six years. You can catch them on the dates below.
