BLEACHERS Throw a Wedding Party in New Video for ‘Don’t Take The Money’

Lena Dunham directs the surreal visuals for Bleachers’ recent single, Don’t Take The Money.

It’s been three years since the release of Bleachers‘ debut album, Strange Desire, so it’s about time they serve us some new music. The musical genius behind the collective, the singer-songwriter-guitarist Jack Antonoff, has given us another brilliant track Don’t Take The Money, taken from their forthcoming sophomore record, Gone Now, out next month.

Co-written with Lorde, Don’t Take The Money is an emotional pop sensation. And as it turns, it has nothing to do with the actual money.

Jack explains:

‘Don’t Take the Money’ is a phrase I say in my head all the time. It has nothing to do with actual money. It means to follow the light. Don’t ignore a gut feeling. “Don’t take the money.” I repeat it to myself when I’m trying to stay on track. Specifically in this song I’m writing about my relationship and the verse and chorus run quickly through the past and the fight leading to the euphoria of seeing the light with someone else.

The colourful visuals are an abundant accompaniment to the track. Directed by Lena Dunham, ‘Girls’ creator and Antonoff’s real-life girlfriend, the video depicts a wedding party taking place in Antonoff’s New Jersey backyard. Well, the events take quite interesting turn as we follow the story of a soon-to-be-married couple. Watch it below.

It’s worth to mention that Dunham and Antonoff have been supporting the equal marriage rights for a long time. In 2015, Lena Dunham revealed on Ellen that she and boyfriend Jack Antonoff would not get married until same-sex couples could legally be married in the United States.

Bleachers second album Gone Now is set for release on June 2nd via RCA Records.

The band is currently touring the US. Catch them on July 5th at Bush Hall in London.
