LIVE // MITSKI, Triple Rock Social Club: Minneapolis, MN

Mitski brought her brutally honest indie rock to a sold out Triple Rock on Sunday night.

She has yet to slow down since the release of her fourth studio album Puberty 2, coming straight to Minneapolis from her praised set at Pitchfork Music Festival.

As the artist flowed from hit to hit off of Puberty 2, her raw vocals amazed me. There is a desperation in her voice that comes across in nearly every song. Choosing to speak the words to Once More To See You instead of sing, Mitski brought attention to her expert lyricism. Openers Kitten Forever later tweeted about the songstress’ lyrics in Townie“still feel like ‘I want a love that falls as fast as a body from the balcony’ is one of the best lyrics I have ever heard”.

The energy in the room was infectious, as most of the crowd were dedicated fans. Long-time devotees were treated to a selection of songs off of 2014’s Bury Me At Makeout Creek.

As Mitski closed down the night, you could tell that there was a feeling of mutual respect between her and the crowd. I’m sure there is going to be much more from this amazing artist in the future and I truly cannot wait.
