Live // OTHERKIN, Camden Assembly, London
What an eventful year for Dublin grunge popers, Otherkin.
After their owing festival appearances at Reading & Leeds, the quartet set out on a massive three month UK / European tour, which we caught the packed out London date of.
It’s been a while since Dublin has produced some fresh new talent that appeals to masses of ears since U2, The Script and My Bloody Valentine. The bursting energy that Otherkin emit puts them proudly on this spectrum of Ireland’s growing talent. With an adrenaline filled room of teenagers and dads, the age gap is lost in the crowd’s ability to make it feel like a sweaty mosh pitted rock gig, as fans scream their way to the front with their arms pointed in the air.
The venue’s dark ambient fairy lights aesthetic, was soon overturned by the many flashes of photographers capturing the band’s energetic movements. Barriers were broken that night, as frontman Luke Reilly graced the crowd with sweats flicked from his head banning, and crowd surfs that lasted the whole night.
If you’re at a Otherkin show then you’re either going to be on stage with the band or the band is going to be on the floor with you, either way it’s going to be a wild experience.
