PREMIERE // GECKO Unveils Visuals for ‘Rapunzel’
British singer-storyteller Gecko releases new clip for his latest single Rapunzel, adding a feminist accent to the well known fairy tale.
Gecko has shared music video for his intriguing cut Rapunzel, taken from his last year’s album Volcano.
Channelling his inner feminist side, Gecko steps out against fairy tale stereotypes in the most lighthearted way. Melodically catchy and lyrically clever, Rapunzel is a bold manifestation of values such as freedom. And with a comical and playful hint, the video perfectly mirrors the significant message embed in the track.
Gecko explains:
After one day contemplating the fairy tale Rapunzel I felt like writing my own version. In my firmly feminist re-telling Rapunzel schools the prince on why you can’t just expect to marry someone if you help them out. She also explains that she wants true freedom not to be kept ‘safe’ in his castle. This is one of my favourite songs to play live, I’ve had the pleasure to play it all over Europe but my highlight has to be playing it to primary school kids!
Gecko has toured extensively all throughout Europe and England including festivals such as Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Pinkpop, sold out shows in London and more. Now he is about to head out on UK & EU tour and you can catch him at the following dates.
