Live: BLOSSOMS // O2 Forum Kentish Town, London

Last Thursday saw Stockport’s finest Blossoms return to O2 Forum Kentish Town.

Bringing their synth-infused blend of dark pop and indie rock, Blossoms charmed the audience at The Forum in London last week.

Back with their sophomore effort, Cool Like You, released last month, the quintet delivered a vibrant set demonstrating diversity of their entire catalogue.

Having refined their signature sound, Blossoms add fresh elements to their sonic palette while sticking to what they do best. The album’s title track alongside I Can’t Stand It already sound like fan favourites, whilst I Just Imagined You is a fast-paced roller coaster of emotions. Elsewhere in the set, Between The Eyes lays down a synth-heavy soundscape fusing haunting melodies.

With a flair for hopeless romanticising, How Long Will This Last? strikes with a dynamic rhythmic structure alongside a more subtle offering that is Honey Sweet, a counterpoint to the band’s darker side clearly exposed on their early pieces like Cut Me And I’ll Bleed or Blow.

Frontman Tom Ogden’s acoustic performance makes quite a stunning addition to the set. With Love Talk and the mesmeric Favourite Room causing a beautiful wave of singalongs, it indeed feels like a special night. We even get a surprising mashup of covers, including Half The World Away and Last Christmas.

There’s no doubt Blossoms have become one of Britain’s favourite guitar bands. Scoring No. 1 with their eponymous debut album back in 2016 surely cemented their position on music scene. As Charlemagne rounds off their show, the band’s success is even more evident and we can only hope that their blossoming phase hasn’t ended just yet.
