POLISH CLUB Electrify with New Single ‘Clarity’
Sydney rock-soul duo Polish Club dazzle with their newest single Clarity.
Serving as the first taste of their upcoming sophomore album, Clarity marries soul and rock into a feel-good track that will have you dancing along. Full of dynamic drumming and punchy riffs, the texture dips and swells alongside the mellifluous melodies, and a building at the bridge climaxes in an explosion of snare drum and meaty guitar tones.
Lyrically, the track is a plea from the sometimes suffocating experience of modern existence. Explaining further, vocalist and guitarist Novak says:
It’s a mental scene rather than a specific one. It’s about the struggle of communication; not being able or eloquent or ballsy enough to say what you’re thinking; being at the end of your tether with confusion, wanting to be clear with yourself and others.
The video sees the duo delivering an electrifying performance of the track in an empty room surrounded by flashing lights. It truly conveys the spark and energy of the track in the most effective way, as the two men stomp around with a lively zest.
Directed by Yoav Lester, he mentions:
A performance piece for a song titled Clarity kind of threw my mind immediately into fog, light, and space. Novak and John-Henry were legends. Performing like rock stars for seven hours straight, mostly at double speed.
Drummer John-Henry builds on this, adding:
Conceptually the idea was to play around with smoke and focus, but making a music vid is such a weird process it ended up being more about the lighting rig, which turned out to be pretty cool. To be honest, I’m not really a performance video clip kinda guy…unless it’s that Audioslave one with the fireworks. But Yoav made us look cool, which is a fucking hard thing to do.
