What to Expect from Glastonbury 2019
If you managed to cop a ticket to this year’s Glastonbury Festival then congratulations!

Tickets this year sold out faster than ever before, meaning that only the most dedicated fans managed to snatch them up. Those who don’t have a ticket yet shouldn’t despair, as there will be a re-sale sometime in the spring (dates TBA), meaning you’ll get another shot at visiting the world’s most iconic and exciting music festival this year.
With regards to Glasto 2k19, facts are currently thin on the ground, with the vast majority of the acts and headliners having yet to be announced. However, we’ve done some digging and can confirm that this year’s festival is on track to be one of the most memorable yet.
Whether or not attendees will get a surprise on par with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s surprise drop-in back in 2017 is anyone’s guess, but there will certainly be plenty to look forward to. Here’s what to expect from this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Who’s Playing?
Let’s get straight down into the really important business – the headliners. The vast majority of the list has yet to be announced, and the usual frenzied speculation and rumour mill are in full swing. As usual, the best place to turn to for a good idea of who is going to headline is the bookmakers.
The bookies always take bets on who is going to play and those with the best odds do usually end up making an appearance at the festival each year. Major betting platforms like Oddschecker recommend checking out Paddy Power for all the latest odds, and what they’re saying might surprise you.
As of publication, the acts with the best odds are The Cure, The Killers, The Strokes, and Fleetwood Mac, the latter coming in at 5/1 odds. All of these would be legendary headliner acts, so we hope they do make an appearance.
Now onto what has been announced; the first West Holts Stage headliner to be announced was none other than the futuristic R&B queen Janelle Monáe, who is bound to grace the stage with one of the most unusual shows ever put on.
The legends stage will be occupied by Australian pop legend Kylie Minogue, who will be performing all of her greatest hits, while the leading light of grime music Stormzy is the first main headliner to be announced. We are promised that the rest will all be revealed to us in good time.
A Special Year for Electronic Music Fans
The steadily climbing influence of techno, house, ska, electronica, and dubstep on the UK and European mainstream music scene has been impossible to deny. As such, it is hardly surprising the Glasto has been embracing EDM acts and shows like never before in the past few years.
Fans of the genre will be doubly pleased in 2019, following the announcement that the festival’s dedicated rave hub Block9 will be doubling in size, as a result of surging popular demand.
Which DJs will be gracing this new and improved space is anyone’s guess at the moment, but expect some of the best bookings from across Europe, as well as plenty of up-and-coming talent from all subgenres.
Arcadia Returns
If you’re a fan of giant, fire-breathing cyborg arachnids, then you’re in luck! Arcadia, the 50-foot tall spider that made its debut at Bristol’s Boomtown Festival and has since become a Glasto staple, will be back and better than ever.
Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis recently told NME that they are planning for Arcadia to come and perform one of the most over-the-top, flame-infused, and ambitious shows in history, so make sure to bring your camera and some flame-retardant clothing.
Some Odd Little Extras
Sometimes it’s the little things that get the most attention at Glastonbury, be it the increasingly bizarre food truck vendors or unconventional accommodation. While we’re not sure what kind of food and lodgings will appear this year, one thing that is rumoured to be making a Glasto debut are so-called “reverse vending machines”.
After having been trialled at several other UK festivals, vending machines which give attendees cash in return for their empty cans and bottles will likely be making an appearance at Glasto, as part of a wider attempt to reduce the festival’s mammoth carbon footprint.
This might be all the information we have at the moment, but more is bound to follow soon. Headline acts are bound to be revealed sometime in the mid-spring, so we’ll just have to be patient until then.
