WALLOWS Share New Single ‘Sidelines’

Heartfelt yet doused with a glimmering sparkle, the newest single from Wallows is truly a treat.

Wallows 2019

Los Angeles-based trio Wallows are back with another track to captivate your heart. Lifted from their upcoming debut album Nothing Happens, which is set to be released on March 22nd, you’re sure to be even more excited for it after this newest tease. Intertwining infectious indie sensibilities with heart-on-sleeve lyricism, don’t be surprised if you get some fluttering sensations within your chest.

Showing off a more candid side to the band, it’s a more lulled pace than previous single Scrawny. A four-beat drum introduction leads us into the main melody, as swathes of synth sing out over a bed of fuzzy electronics. Honest vocals are brought to the forefront in the chorus, backed by only a swanky bassline and sparse percussion. Singing ‘I see you loving on the sidelines, I think about it at the wrong times’, the sun-drenched melody is touched with a dash of wistfulness, and you’ll feel your heart grow ever more tender at the light falsetto. It’s pretty much universally accepted that no one can say no to an indie love song, and with Sidelines, this claim rings more true than ever as you sympathise with the uncertainty that comes with the end of a relationship being sung about.

The self-directed visuals for the video was shot in Los Angeles’ Castle Park, and sees the band members wandering round a mini-golf course, reflecting upon the heartbreak expressed in the lyricism.
