Live: JAMES BAY // London Palladium
Hot off the heels of his heart-rending new EP, Oh My Messy Mind, James Bay took to the stage at the stunning London Palladium.
The BRIT Awards-winning, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter had his older brother, Alex Francis as support, effectively warming up the crowd before the main act. Tonight was a delightful appetiser to the tour on which James will be supporting Ed Sheeran across Europe.
Set opener Pink Lemonade from his second album Electric Light immediately brought the audience to their feet, rendering the cushy seats redundant. The crowd then became a massive sing-along party as Bay brought out old favourites such as If You Ever Want To Be In Love, When We Were On Fire, and Best Fake Smile. Wild Love saw the stage bathed in pink, while Break My Heart Right and Bad off the new EP had James playing solo, bringing us back to his Chaos And The Calm days.
And like icing on the cake, rising star Lewis Capaldi made an appearance mid-way through Let It Go for a duet and medley intertwined with his own track, Someone You Loved. It was evident that James knew how to put on a show, throwing in a cover of Janis Joplin’s Piece of My Heart before closing with hit song Hold Back the River.
After tonight, we can safely say that when it comes to Bay, we don’t mind falling for a lifetime.
