Live: MISTERWIVES // Varsity Theater – Minneapolis, MN
“Endless hues and shades.”
These lyrics from MisterWives’ song Coloring Outside The Lines provide the perfect description for the group’s live show. The vibrant six-piece from New York graced the Varsity Theater stage last Sunday in support of their EP mini bloom.
The performance began with the end. As the misters of MisterWives took the stage dressed in white, an audio clip from The Wizard of Oz quietly played “there’s no place like home” on repeat. As the first few notes of the end rang out into the venue, lead singer Mandy Lee bounded onto the stage in all of her glittery glory. Her energy and bubbly presence supports the rest of the band throughout the show. She acts as a glorious anchor for the visual aspect of the performance.
After showcasing a few tunes from both 2017’s Connect the Dots and their debut album Our Own House, the middle of the set was reserved for mini bloom. In a fabulous moment during the chorus of coming up for air, the band lined up center stage for a choreographed dance, eliciting roaring cheers from their fans. This moment was followed by a phenomenal cover of Lizzo’s Truth Hurts.
Sadly, the night had to come to an end. MisterWives finished with their triumphant tune Our Own House, which riled up the audience for one last dance. They continue their US tour until mid-December. You can find tour dates here.
