DECLAN MCKENNA Unveils New Song ‘The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home’

New single drops ahead of musician’s UK tour.

The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home is an exquisite new taster taken from McKenna‘s debut album, out in Spring via Columbia Records.

Although still in his teens, Declan McKenna surely knows how to draw everyone’s attention. Having earned a spot on BBC Sound Of 2017 poll list and performed on Later… With Jools Holland amongst others, the artist has already established himself as an exciting and talented emerging act.

Now, Declan kicks off 2017 with a new song which, as the title may suggest, is a successful shout-out to the kids who stand for what they believe in, and it gracefully follows previous singles ParacetamolBethlehem and Isombard.

As expressed in the past, the young musician does not stray away from public and global issues that (should) concern all of us. The Kids… was initially inspired by the series of events that occurred in 2015 but came into being after the November’s attack in Paris. There was the feeling of helplessness and frustration too of course, mainly because of what happened next. The inability to vote on the recent matter that will directly affect the future of young people seemed like a final straw.

Despite being born out of anger and the sense of powerlessness, The Kids… is undoubtedly an infectious tune. McKenna‘s well-crafted lyrics shine again as the chords serve catchy melodious vibes. In all the surrounding us hopelessness we still find a room for hope and willingness to fight for our cause, whatever that cause may be.

Both politically and emotionally charged the track exposes, in a way, the young generation. It emphasises at the same time that there are still individuals who care about the current state of the world. We could really use more of those.

Declan McKenna is also set to open for Cage The Elephant next week at the shows in Dublin, Manchester and London, followed by his UK tour. See the dates below!
