Album Review // THE WOMBATS ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’
The Wombats are well and truly back better than ever. Full of wit and tongue twisting lyrics they haven’t departed from their recipe that the people love.
On their fourth studio album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, they are taking risks and pushing their sound.
With 10 tracks The Wombats go through a wide range of emotions, which we know they aren’t afraid of expressing (Turn & Cheetah Tongue). They are always engaging in their narrative with sayings that we use every day in an exceptional and ingenious way, like in the first single Lemon To A Knife Fight. Life’s everyday mundane moments, such as getting wasted in Lethal Combination, or love and heartbreak in Out Of My Head, are topics of the conversations.
You also will experience moments of sadness and then euphoria within a few minutes. It truly is a roller-coaster ride of emotions and experiences that you don’t want to get off. The guys know how to write a song but they continue to show that thriving guitars and thrilling drums that make our hearts race still are their forte, Black Flamingo and White Eyes are prime examples.
I’m sure we all think we know what an album from The Wombats sounds like, we understand their formula but this collection of songs is a rejuvenation of that. Each track keeps you guessing and surprises you for the better. With that we welcome them into 2018 and on repeat on our devices and record players.
