ALL TIME LOW // Slam Dunk Festival 2019
Celebrating 10 years of their Nothing Personal album, All Time Low were the perfect finish to an extravagant Slam Dunk 2019.
Come sun or rain, nothing can quite dwindle the passion at Slam Dunk Festival and despite the bouts of drizzle that accompanied this year’s edition of the festival, everyone still came together full force for a blazing finish with All Time Low’s headline slot. Although Slam Dunk features a plethora of artists that span multiple genres, it’s best-known for its pop-punk offerings and who else could have been better suited to wrap up this year’s festival than genre heavyweights All Time Low? As they celebrate 10 years of their studio album Nothing Personal, the nostalgia laid heavy in the air and suddenly we all felt like teenagers again.
Opening with Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t), the energy was buzzing from the very first note as Alex Gaskarth hit every note with gusto and the crowd returning every ounce of passion delivered. The old-school vibe did not linger too long though, as they crashed into their upbeat new single Everything Is Fine. And indeed, everything was fine – with the rain clearing up and giving way to a gorgeous sunset with hues of amber and pink, you couldn’t imagine anywhere else you would want to be.
As the starting notes of Break Your Little Heart came strumming in, the excitement almost skyrocketed as Awsten Knight from Waterparks made a surprise appearance and joined the band onstage for the last part of their song. But it seems that the band had more surprises up their sleeves as they debuted a new song called Getaway Green, which garnered an enthusiastic response from the crowd despite the fact that nobody knew the words, and had everyone on their feet jumping along. Fans invaded the stage for Time-Bomb, making it a party both on and offstage, and the final song of Dear Maria, Count Me In definitely roused the loudest singalong of the day, ending the festivities on a high note.
There’s nothing quite like Slam Dunk, and 2019 proved this statement to be more true than ever. Whether we relived our teenage years during the absolute belter Weightless, or cried along to the emotional Therapy, no one could deny that All Time Low truly brought a headline set to remember.
