Suddenly, our level of ghosting people doesn’t seem so bad in comparison to Marika’s in her newest video for i’m not where you are.

UK’s Marika Hackman hasn’t been one to shy away from tackling personal themes in her music, and the recent i’m not where you are follows very much the same trend. Singing about emotional detachment from relationships, the visuals for the video very much get the message across between scenes of teary-faced partners throwing Marika’s clothes out of a window and dumping smoothies on Marika’s head, all whilst Marika maintains a face of apathy. There’s something quite comic about the opening of the video as we follow a montage of Marika’s past interests slapping her in the face, yet the lyrical themes are anything but comic in its emotional weight.

i’m not where you are is lifted from Marika’s upcoming album Any Human Friend, which will be released on August 9th via AMF records and Sub Pop in North and South America. Marika says of the record:

This whole record is me diving into myself and peeling back the skin further and further, exposing myself in quite a big way. It can be quite sexual. It’s blunt, but not offensive. It’s mischievous. We all have this lightness and darkness in us.
