CROWN THE EMPIRE Share ‘In Another Life’ feat. COURTNEY LAPLANTE
Hard-hitting rock combines with raw emotion in In Another Life, the new single from Crown The Empire, featuring Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox.

Andy Leo, Brandon Hoover, Hayden Tree, and Brent Taddie are Crown The Empire, an incredibly dynamic punk-rock, metal band. Taking inspiration from, and having shared stages with bands such as A Day To Remember and Black Veil Brides, the quartet have placed their name in good stead amongst their scene. Having released their first album all the way back in 2012, it’s so impressive to see that listeners are as in love with Crown The Empire now, as they were nine years ago. The band are working on their new studio album and have just dropped In Another Life, which features vocals from Courtney LaPlante of Canadian metal trio, Spiritbox.
In Another Life is a song that hits different extremes. It begins with Hayden Tree screaming at us over a heavy, quick-paced guitar beat, and then fluctuates to the softer, emotional vocals of Andy Leo. Written about the way life was tip-turned upside down, and how the pandemic affected people’s mental states, In Another Life portrays paranoia, sleepless nights, and Courtney LaPlante’s contrasting vocals form as an outside outlook. In spite of the utmost heaviness of the track and its composition, Crown The Empire have put forward an innocence and vulnerability that can be resonated with by most – it’s emotionally-charged and truly stunning.
On the single, Leo comments:
‘In Another Life’ was the first song we wrote while working on our new album in the studio. The idea initially started because I was talking with a friend of mine about how we both had just gotten out of serious relationships during the pandemic. These relationships that were once comforting and safe now felt confining.
Because of COVID, my life got completely derailed and I was getting very little sleep. My entire identity was so wrapped up in my ability to sing and tour the world that having that taken away from me made me feel like a ghost.
Over the course of the next year I started having crazy dreams and seeing strange things around my house. One night I saw feet running up and down the stairs but brushed it off, telling myself I was just imagining things. But then another night my producer came over and mentioned he saw a girl walking up and down the stairs. After some research, I found out there had been an actress from the 1920’s who lived in my house. She was a partier, slept few hours, and was the same age as me when she died. I really connected with her story and it inspired me to write this song.
