KAWALA Release Vivacious Single ‘Jesse C’mon’
Compelling you to dance with its layered harmonies and groovy guitars, this track is a vibrant offering about people of the world who struggle with telling the truth.
KAWALA are a North London-based outfit consisting of vocalist Jim and acoustic guitarist/vocalist Daniel, and are backed up by a complete band including Ben on drums, Reeve on bass and Dan Lee on electric guitar. Originally composing songs inspired by the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Half Moon Run, the Londoners have quickly developed their own unique sound, which combines their love of solid vocal harmonies and skilled acoustic guitar.
Scheduled for release on 4th March, KAWALA’s forthcoming debut album Better With You is a collage of thoughts, emotions and observations, which are soundtracked by afrobeat-inspired sonics and captivating vocal harmonies. The record contains ten songs, of which their new track Jesse C’mon is the most recent single, as well as the previous joyfully optimistic singles Searching and Ticket To Ride, and the slightly more introspective track Good Like This. Formed by a number of creative individuals who paint or drew different panels, the album’s cover art is a ravishing mosaic incorporating every single panel and this artwork serves as a metaphor for the album’s themes of community and growth.
Immediately filling your ears with effortless vocal harmonies, Jesse C’mon is a carefully crafted dance hit and an irresistible hit of adrenaline as the track’s tempo increases.
Jesse is a character we made up who represents and embodies all the people in the world who intentionally lie all the time. Everybody knows a Jesse.
Created by Spanish video director NYSU, who has previously worked with Bastille and New Order, the music video for Jesse C’mon is a surreal dreamscape which reflects the exuberance of the track. Smile-inducing and mesmerising from beginning to end, you will not be able to take your eyes off of this vibrantly-coloured, bizarre music video – and you won’t want to.
KAWALA explain the inspiration behind the music video:
When we first wrote the song, the thing that stood out about it was how it instinctively made you start bopping your head. And as we listened back to what we’d made, one of us would start bopping his head, and suddenly we were all doing it. We wanted to showcase how infectious this was through the main characters’ consistent head motion throughout the video. Through the ingenious vision of NYSU, we were able to balance this with the constantly evolving chaos all around him. We wanted to make it hard to keep your eyes off it!
