MORNING SILK Charm With New Track ‘Skin’
Bringing blistering electronics and searing guitars, Skin is the lush new single from Morning Silk.

New York-based outfit Morning Silk put the modern musician’s dilemma into words, as they address the cost of pursuing your passion even if it doesn’t pay the rent. The elation experienced from chasing after your dreams isn’t one that can always be quantified, and they acknowledge this amidst a swirl of dreamy accompaniment and ephemeral vocals. The track comes as the fourth track from their upcoming debut album, and continues to build on the intrigue of what’s still to come.
Drawing from alternative and dream-pop influences, Morning Silk bring a sound that packs a punch while still maintaining an airy, untouchable quality that will make you feel as if you’re floating atop the synths and glittering electronics. With a rousing bass line that colours the track with more complexity, you’ll enjoy having a good groove along to the track.
Explaining the track slightly further, the group explains:
I lost a lot of work due to Covid, so I started writing music again. We opened up songs from 6 years ago and finished one of them. This sort of set in motion a new sonic palette for us. For some reason, the words “pay the rent” kept popping into my head. So with a simple melody, we put “pay the rent” over some heavy synth bass sounds. I wanted this bass line to sort of have an energy of its own, so Matt, Rob, and I listened to some dirt bike for inspiration. This is is our Indie Pop anthem about trying to chase your dreams and pay your rent.
Matt further elaborates:
Fuck the rent, fuck the doubts, you wanna look back at your life knowing you did what you were supposed to, or what you’re here for. To me it’s about realizing priorities, but priorities on some real, fundamental level.
