SLIMDAN Debuts With ‘MVP’

With a dose of heart-on-sleeve lyricism, MVP is the sincere debut from Slimdan.

US musician Slimdan makes his debut with MVP, a tugging track that combines the lulling sounds of folk and a pop catchiness to create something soft yet memorable. Having studied at Boston, when he returned to Los Angeles Slimdan had “every intention of working in a coffee shop and trying to tour in an indie band, but I started getting invited into pop sessions. I was bored of guys with acoustic guitars and didn’t think the universe needed another one, so exploring the way other artists create was really interesting to me.”

In doing so, he started collaborating and songwriting for others and he admits, “for a while, I felt like I didn’t have anything to say. I didn’t want to release music just for the sake of doing it.” But when he received a last-minute cancellation and decided to just try his hand out at writing in his own voice, he started discovering his own sonic corner. In doing so, he didn’t have any grandiose intentions of topping the charts or becoming the next mega-popstar; it was just a way of catharsis and expressing his own passion, as he explains, “I’m just trying to be myself. I don’t take myself too seriously and want to focus on the artistry of making music. I’m not trying to dominate the charts. I just want to write songs and work with other artists I love.”

As he debuts with MVP, this unique charm shines through his gentle vocals and soothing acoustic guitars. With influences of folk, it’s a track that’s perfect to set your heart at ease and slow down the pace of life. Delicately plucked strings float through the speakers and rousing electronics build-up without ever overpowering, and you’ll find a serenity within the falsetto vocals that will make the memory of this track linger in your mind.
