POND ‘Sweep Us off Our Feet’ with New Music Video
Aussie psych rockers POND finally unveil the details on their upcoming album, The Weather.
Alongside the album news the band hands us another teaser in the form of a video for previously released single Sweep Me Off My Feet.
Following up 30000 Megatons, which was released as a reaction to Trump being elected president, POND come around with this surrealist dream in the shape of a video for Sweep Me Of My Feet straight after said president’s inauguration.
The video features clips which look like they were taken from vacation ads alongside Jesus on the cross and a tormenting shower scene. Basically, it looks like the storyboard was made through a random scroll in stock photos. However odd it may seem, it still works surprisingly well with the trippy tune. The video and the song align, escalating in some sort of salvation climax before ending in the setting of an office (of all places).
The tune, which like the rest of the album, was produced by Tame Impala’s very own Kevin Parker, and the intertwine between these two Aussie bands is deep rooted with more than one shared member and collaboration.
Frontman Nicholas Allbrook’s says of the album:
‘The Weather’ is a concept album, not completely about Perth, but focusing on all the weird contradictory things that make up a lot of colonial cities around the world. Laying out all the dark things underneath the shimmering exterior of cranes, development, money and white privilege. It’s not our place, but it is our place. British, but Australian, but not REAL Australian. On the edge of the world with a hell of a lot of fucked things defining our little city, still we try and live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful. At the end of all this confusion in our weird little white antipodean world, there’s the beach, purity and nature that brings us all together.
The Weather follows POND‘s 2015’s album Man It Feels Like Space Again and it is set to be released on May 5th via Marathon Artists.
POND are also playing an intimate gig at London’s Moth Club on February 14th, a great Valentine gift to their loving fans.
