Supergroup IMITATING AEROPLANES Announce Debut Album ‘Planet Language’

Imitating Aeroplanes, the new project of Tord Øverland Knudsen of The Wombats, and Marius Drogsås Hagen of Team Me, announce their debut album, Planet Language with lead single, Hourglass.

Having made songs together since childhood, there’s no doubt that these two have a well versed harmony. The palpable symbiosis between the different elements of the tune witness an immense eye for detail, and yet the most swooning aspect of the single is the unexpected turns and glittering surprises. The shifting terrain of the soundscape takes you on a delightful journey. Hourglass leaves you with the unmistakable yearning for more of that kind.

Opening up about the songwriting process, Tord says:

‘Hourglass’ was written in my parent’s basement, which took us back to where it all started, like a couple of 12-year-olds just nerding out and playing music again.

Whilst Marius states that:

The lyric is kinda dark, but it’s optimistic in the sense of just living in the now, and always looking forward, and making the most of this small fragment of time that we have.

The album, drawing on the winning influence of “red wine and prog nights” is a melting pot of inspirations ranging from Japanese folklore figure Urashima Tarō to the sentiments of Genesis and Pink Floyd.

“The whole idea of this album was to do things we haven’t done before, and things that we couldn’t do in our existing projects,” Tord says.

“It feels like one hell of a journey, both lyrically and musically,” Marius adds. “It’s all about travelling in different ways – whether in music or in life – and somehow finding bits of home wherever you are.”

Planet Language is due the 22nd September through Propeller Recordings.
