MATT MALTESE Unveils New Single ‘Greatest Comedian’

21-year-old South London singer Matt Maltese has released his first single off of his upcoming debut album, due early Summer 2018.

Greatest Comedian puts a powerful step forward and is paired with an announcement for Matt Maltese‘s largest headlining show at London’s Scala on 6th June.

A collaboration with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado – who helped direct debut records from Whitney and The Lemon Twigs – Greatest Comedian represents Matt’s ambitions for his forthcoming material. The song is full of his typical sardonic lines that pair incredibly well with a rich, layered instrumentation.

Although Matt’s vocal range is not displayed in this tune, the rich tones of his deep register penetrate through its catchy melody. The track builds wonderful anticipation for the record, with its dreamy Californian atmospherics offering an interesting contrast to Matt’s previous releases.

Matt says:

And then when I was working with Jonathan Rado, coming to end of recording the album, I played him it and he was like (in strong LA accent), “We gotta record that record”. And then he made it into what it is now. It’s definitely a kind of anomaly on the album but it’s the song I always wanted to to be able to make. My close, sometimes sardonic friend listened to it the other day, and she heard the first five seconds and went, “Hello 2002”. I thought – yes I’ve done it.
