All Time Low surprise release their newest single Birthday; this wasn’t expected by anyone, but hey we’re not complaining when All Time Low drop a banging summer tune.

All Time Low have dropped an unexpected new single in what is potentially the sweetest way; the band had sent a handful of lucky fan club members, who had turned another year older last week, huge birthday cakes completed with a link revealing the new single. It’s a pretty fitting release for a new single titled Birthday.

Their method of releasing isn’t the only thing that’s sweet though, as the track itself is pretty sweet too. Opening with electronic beats, the light electronic notes will lure you in with its undeniable summer feel. Catchy vocals build up to the chorus, as a chorus of voices is juxtaposed with Alex Gaskarth’s lower solo vocals. As the instruments take over and replace the electronics in the chorus, it creates a massive sound that has hints of the band’s older material whilst maintaining the refreshing new sonic direction.  

There’s no shortage of the band’s crafty lyricism that fans are familiar with either; this is especially evident in the addictive chorus, where the line “I need you like cake on my birthday” strikes an effective metaphor that captures the desire lacing the track. Birthday sees the band merging familiar material with a creative new direction, staying All Time Low whilst pushing at their sound evolution. And frankly, we love it and we need this track like cake on our birthday because it’s so good.
