JW RIDLEY Shares Visuals for ‘Glass Eyes’

Achingly beautiful, the newest single from JW Ridley will leave a lingering memory even after the last note has finished.

JW RIDLEY 2019

South London’s JW Ridley has shared his newest single and video Glass Eyes, a track that gives a glimpse into the singer’s perspective.

There’s a disconnected feeling found in the track which gives it a haunting, ethereal quality that will lift you and gently place you right into the heart of JW’s feelings. Lilting electronics and sombre guitars lull around repetitively, leaving you hypnotised as hypnagogic effects wash over the top. Faded vocals only add to the dreamy and other-worldly feeling created, and a tone of melancholia can be found within the heartfelt atmosphere.

Reflecting on the themes and expression behind the track, JW says:

When I was a teenager I was put on a lot of medication. Things briefly got better and then quickly much worse…I found myself living in a very private world completely disconnected. Glass Eyes is made up of words I had written years ago when it all started, and some I wrote more recently having finally been able come off it. It’s a song of two perspectives, a conversation/friction between two very different places.

The visuals for the video shows dusky scenes of suburban areas, as gradual changes within the same scene are shown. Expressing a perpetual state of feeling that something is about to happen, there is both welcoming and fear towards this slow, silent panic.

Discussing the visuals, JW mentions:

Growing up in a very suburban place it kind of felt like you’re waiting for your life to begin, you’re looking at the world from the outside, you live in a private fantasy world, I wanted the video to touch on that.
