The alternative rock outfit are back quicker than ever with their new unexpected project “Song Machine”, a cartoon music contraption which moves outside the traditional constraints of a typical album release cycle and debuts brand new episodes from Kong Studios ‘fresh and as and when they happen’ throughout the year.

First episode Momentary Bliss features British rapper slowthai and punk rock duo Slaves focusing on the struggles against the circumstances you’re involved in by no fault of your own and being limited to only occasional moments of bliss. The rather contradicting and unexpected collaboration brings scrappy guitar riffs, thumping drum beats and synth-pop hooks with slowthai’s vocals taking over at the majority of the song resulting it to a pure, fun and chaotic sound.

The single premiered with a video that showcases the recording of the track, featuring Damon Albarn, slowthai, Slaves, and others working alongside the animated members of Gorillaz.

Speaking of the new project, Gorillaz drummer Russel commented:

Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do. Gorillaz breaking the mould ‘cos the mould got old. World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case…

Each episode of the new project will also be accompanied by Machine Bitez – recordings of actual conversations between the cartoon band members and their unknown future collaborators, one of which is set to be Australian band Tame Impala.
