HONEY MOONCIE Shares New Single ‘Checkmate’
Get your dancing shoes on and get ready for a boogie with the disco-influenced new single from Honey Mooncie, Checkmate.
It’s fair to say that the UK R&B scene has been buzzing with activity in recent times, and there’s been some incredible music arising from this bubbling hotpot of creativity and talent. The latest name to be added into the mix is Honey Mooncie, who has managed to captivate listeners with her kaleidoscopic melodies and soothing vocals despite only being 18 years of age. In her newest single Checkmate, she infuses fuzzy guitars with disco influences, melding together jazz, R&B, and pop to create an utterly infectious track you can’t (and won’t want to) get out of your head.
Explaining how the track came about, Honey Mooncie shares:
The vibe for this track sort of came out of nowhere, the disco influences definitely weren’t intentional at first. We didn’t put any pressure on this song and let it grow naturally but as the song developed we took influence from the new Mark Ronson album with tracks like ‘late night feelings’. It’s about seeing your friend in a relationship that isn’t particularly good for them and them not being able to see it as they’re so taken by this person.
