NORMANDIE Share Video for New Single ‘Babylon’
Having an identity crisis has never sounded as catchy as it does in Babylon, the latest single from Normandie.
Swedish alt-rockers Normandie have been gearing up for the release of their third album, Dark & Beautiful Secrets, which is looking to be the trio’s most open and honest work to date. Set to be released on 19th February, previous singles such as Jericho and Holy Water have already hinted at the emotional turbulence that lies behind the record, but the infectious Babylon offers a further taste of what’s to come. With lively guitars and a contagious energy, you’ve never heard an identity crisis sound as good as this, as singer Philip Strand poses the question ‘are you following or falling out?’
Explaining more about the unexpected inspiration for the track, Philip shares:
‘Babylon’ wasn’t supposed to happen. With the covid restrictions, it landed us more time to dive into the studio again and play around with new ideas. The song came purely from just having fun and playing around using breaths and coughs as instruments.
I’ve been searching for my identity my entire life. Going from group to group, crowd to crowd, trying to fit in – finally, I realised that my true identity is something I should form myself. “Are you following or falling out” is a line I wanted to use to express the way many of these groups behave. You’re either in or out. To me, identity is what you get when you mix all the things you identify with, bits and pieces that then become you as whole.
