WYNONA Share Woozy New Track ‘Get Back To Myself’

Taking you on a nostalgic trip, Wynona make their debut with Get Back To Myself.

Wynona 2021

Bedroom pop duet Wynona make their debut with their comforting single Get Back To Myself, and it’s a delightful and warming track that wraps you in a soothing embrace. Consisting of partners Natalie and Rich, Wynona began as a creative exploration for the duo at their old home studio in Osaka, Japan when they were grappling with feelings of isolation and homesickness in a foreign country. Unsurprisingly, what results is a collection of music that leans towards familiarity and calm to counteract the uncertainty, and their debut single Get Back To Myself is a fine example of the musical oasis they have created for themselves.

As the lockdown kicked in over 2020, the pair were forced to take the last flight out of Tokyo and return home to Hampshire, UK. Amidst the chaos, they chose to return to Get Back To Myself, a song that came to life over their time in Japan. Nodding towards the wistfulness of living abroad, the track evokes nostalgic feelings through dreamy guitar tones and dulcet vocals, all of which build towards a tender chorus that sets you right at ease with the band. Although there’s an inherent questioning built into the lyricism, as it explores one’s own identity in the ever-changing landscape of the world, there’s also relief offered as the track carries an optimistic tone throughout.

Explaining more of the track, Natalie shares:

The initial version of the song was floating around pre-pandemic whilst we were living in Osaka. We found the idea comforting as it addressed the isolation we were feeling whilst living so far from home. Then all of a sudden we found ourselves unexpectedly on the last flight out of Tokyo (literally!), in Spring 2020, due to the global situation. We then returned to the home we were missing, only to find it unrecognisable to the one we had left behind. It was a culture shock in our own country – a disorientating experience.

We returned to the song in the summer of 2020 and found ourselves romanticising our time in Japan with a new perspective, in a world that had completely changed. In this way, the definition of what ‘myself’ looked or felt like, proved to be fluid and ever-changing.
