Soaring with a new sense of confidence, the Minnesotan five-piece return with infectious new track Bad Dream Baby, taken from their upcoming new EP, Good Dog, Bad Dream, set for release on August 6th via NYC indie label Grand Jury. The new track is the band’s first proper release since 2018 sophomore album Bambi.

In true Hippo Campus style, Bad Dream Baby is a delightful concoction of indie wizardry, whimsy and unfiltered honesty. Underpinned with driving rhythms and sardonic yet confessional lyrical twists, the track effortlessly flourishes with sparkling instrumentals and irresistible indie melodies, offering an insightful glimpse into the emotional fluidity and vulnerability of the band’s new EP.

Detailing their EP lead single, singer Jake Luppen explained:

The lyrics are a stream of consciousness, darting between my complex relationship with my father, a Britney Spears documentary, and some older men at Grumpy’s (my favorite bar in Minneapolis) who used to hit on me. The hook references my exit from the Mormon religion when I was 15 and the isolation felt during quarantine and the death of the dog my mom got me during my parents’ intense divorce.
