GREYA Releases New Single ‘Lightning’

The new song from Greya sees Marc E. Bassy lending his vocals for an intoxicating combination in Lightning.

Greya

Philadelphia musician Greya builds on the success she found for herself when she started creating mid-pandemic last year as she releases her gripping new single Lightning. Her musical history runs for longer than the record though, as she began singing aged nine, started playing guitar at ten, and picked up songwriting by eleven. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that this has been a lifelong dream for Greya, and she personally reminisces:

From the time I can remember, I thought, I’m going to be a singer. I was so confident and into it. It wasn’t a matter of if. It was when.

The dream nearly got thrown off track though when it was discovered both Greya and her twin sister were born deaf, before regaining hearing at two months old. She recalls:

I think about it sometimes – if my hearing hadn’t developed, I wouldn’t be able to do everything I do now. I feel very lucky. Everything I love to do is centered around listening.

That may perhaps partially explain how Greya is able to create such a visceral and turbulent soundscape, especially in Lightning. Having experienced the importance and how impactful the sense of hearing is, she thoughtfully crafts music to have maximum impact; in Lightning, the spellbinding mixture of textures and the brooding melody all add to the effect, and the delectable contrast between her aching tone and Marc E. Bassy’s searing vocals is the cherry on top. It’s a single that will grip onto you and refuse to let go, as you’re exposed to a swirl of tender vulnerability and stirring passion, and the track will haunt your memory even after the last note has passed.
