CYRANO Soothes With New Single ‘Afterburns’

Describing it as ‘music for the late night overthinkers’, Afterburns is the luscious new single from Cyrano.

Cyrano 2021

Edinburgh-based musician Cyrano brings all the tranquility of dusk and the warming colours of sunset into his latest track, Afterburns. Wrapping you in a swell of hazy electronics and faded vocals, it’s a track that gently caresses you with delicacy to leave you feeling safe and protected, cocooned by the security of the track. As mellow synths paint a spellbinding picture, infused with emotion and tenderness, you’ll feel every last knot of tension unravelling. Yet hidden within the heat, there’s a thin layer of melancholy that comes from the subject matter, as Cyrano allows all of his thoughts, whether positive or negative, to just spill out onto paper.

Speaking more about the track, Cyrano shares:

To me, the ‘Afterburns’ of a relationship is when the coals are on the fire, and you’re wondering whether to give it another stoke for a flame. If you spend too much time thinking, it’ll just fade away.

I  wanted ‘Afterburns’ to personify my feelings, from the lyrics and melodies to its length and flow. The whole track is one big thought, and the most idiosyncratic song of my music for the late night overthinkers.

He has also created two versions of the track, depending on what results you receive from his unique personality test, and he explains of the idea:

When I was living in Singapore, I was reading a book by Susan Cain called ‘Quiet’ about introversion and extroversion. At the same time, I was listening over the various mixes I’d been sent of ‘Afterburns’ and I started to feel these qualities within two of the mixes. One felt like the type of song you’d want to sing along to in a festival crowd while the other felt like one for your earphones, and a moment for yourself.
