LASSE MATTHIESSEN Shares New Single ‘Reed’

Following a three-year break, Lasse Matthiessen makes a stunning return with Reed.

Lasse Matthiessen

It’s been a while since Lasse Matthiessen has been active on the music scene; between the chaos caused by COVID-19 and fatherhood, it’s been three years since his last release. However, that’s all changed last week with his latest release Reed, and it simultaneously harks at his previous sound and marks a fresh start. Adopting a soothing indie-folk tendency, Reed is an understated comeback track that clearly embodies growth and development without drastically altering what we loved about Lasse’s past music.

Fluttering between delicately plucked strings and heartfelt vocals, Reed is a track that gently caresses you in warmth and anchors you in a place of deep emotion. The lulling pace of the track sets you at ease, and the electronics transform into sparkling embers that fill your imagination with wonder. Yet despite the awe-inspiring sounds, the narrative that lies behind the track is a much more simple one, lifted from mundanity that could easily be a part of anyone’s lives and yet it’s precisely this that makes the track feel so much more relatable.

Speaking more about the meaning behind the track, Lasse shares:

The song ‘Reed’ is about a toxic relationship with a woman. It’s about the anger in the relationship and how much he gets emotionally provoked. But then, whenever she laughs everything is suddenly good again.
