Indie singer-songwriter Matt Bullard has made a few names for himself – crafting under the moniker url, he’s also been ordained as Orlando’s ‘sad boy supreme’. However, the sadness is fleeting in his newest single with Inadelle, magic wand, a lovely and woozy single that charms with its lucid lyricism and ardent emotions. The two were former high school friends, and have re-connected over a shared love of music. It follows the journey of a burgeoning romance from opposite perspectives, colouring your sonic world with warm shades of pink and red. Speaking about this, url says:

‘magic wand’ was our first collaboration after not having seen each other for almost a decade. We talked about our current relational statuses and found we were on opposite sides of our situations. I started laying down the instrumentation mid-conversation – after Inadelle put down the hook, the song was pretty much finished by the end of the night. The lyrics touch on both sides of intimacy – scared of hurting or being hurt. Whoever holds the wand has the “magic.”

Inadelle continues:

Beginning as an innocent song of new infatuation and its inherent unknowns, the lyrics took on a deeper meaning with time. As for the song’s peculiar title, it was initially a playfully convenient placeholder. I had just carved my first wand (that I was very proud of), and url kept placing it in my hand while I was singing – my takes were just ‘magically’ better with the wand.
