PREMIERE // YOSSARIAN Unveil New Single ‘He Hid Behind A Culture And A Wall’

Yossarian balance on the verge of reality and fantasy in their brooding new single He Hid Behind A Culture And A Wall.

Yossarian 2018

London-based trio Yossarian return with He Hid Behind A Culture And A Wall, the second taste of  their forthcoming third album, All These Fictions, set to be released later this year.

With a dark beat underpinning the track, the band marry atmospheric electronics with gentle, yet sharp string instrumentals that grow into an expansive soundscape. Carried by singer Ash Spencer’s solemn vocals, the melodies convey a tale about isolation in an ever more globalised world. As we all seek refuge in the figments of our imagination from time to time, the track’s melancholic undertones pierce right through you. With metaphors which keep oozing from the profound lyricism, it’s a challenging listen, but it’s also a soothing one.

The band explains:

As its title suggests, ‘He Hid Behind a Culture and a Wall’ is inspired by the social constructs we co-opt in order to give meaning and grounding to our lives. In an ever more globalised yet polarising world that sieges our psyche with contradicting views and opinions, we seek refuge behind the fictional walls that justify our life choices and our way of making sense of reality. Our horizon dims and flattens but there is less for our minds to contend with, since everything outside our cage is either ignored or in direct opposition to us and our tribe. The library is closing soon but we’re safe behind the walls of our plastic island, where there are no signs of other humans, and strangers only die in photos.
