Artist Of The Week // AMANDA TENFJORD
Get ready to reminisce on your childhood with Norwegian songstress Amanda Tenfjord and her newest single The Floor Is Lava.
Trondheim-based artist Amanda Tenfjord shares her first new single since the release of her debut EP, First Impression, in the form of upbeat The Floor Is Lava. Referencing a well-known childhood game, she uses this to angle her reflections upon the freedom associated with childhood, and the carefree days when we could do whatever we want without a second thought about the consequences. This lighthearted feeling is reflected in the jovial beats and rousing drums, and the cheery melody is simply irresistible. A swelling chorus will bring the euphoria to the max, and Amanda’s dulcet voice makes it all the more delightful to listen to.
Amanda explains the inspiration for the song; she was walking along to a studio session when she passed by some children playing hide and seek:
It looked so lovely – that avoiding being ‘seen’ was seemingly their biggest obstacle in life. The song is really about being high on life and having a good time without being particularly influenced by other things. Pure ignorant happiness, just like when you were a child!
With this in mind, we talked to Amanda about some of her childhood memories and words of wisdom she would pass to her younger self.
What’s a motto you live by?
Be nice. Just be nice.
If your sound had a colour, what colour would it be?
Dark green!!
If you could set the track to a movie, which movie would it be the soundtrack to?
The Lion King.
You mentioned the track was about the freedom you have as a child; what’s the freest you’ve ever felt as a child?
Learning to drive my little red and cute bicycle for the first time!
What’s your fondest childhood memory?
Oh, that must have been when all the kids in the neighbourhood I grew up in (Tennfjord) gathered around my Grandma’s house and played “boksen går” or “kick the can” – I think it’s called in English. And afterwards we all went to back to Grandma and got the BEST hot chocolate in the world. WOW great times.
What’s a childhood moment you want to relive as an adult?
I still really want to get some people together and just play… like hide and seek or kick the can or what ever, and just play for hours.
If you could tell your younger self something, what message would you tell them?
Don’t worry so much about everything, it’s all going to be ok!!
