Band Of The Week // SLENDERBODIES
Feel yourself get whisked away with the newest tune from slenderbodies, away from you.
When you combine whispering falsetto with lush electronics, you get the charm of slenderbodies and it’s an enchanting concoction you can’t stay away from. Their newest track away from you elevates you to an ethereal sphere as feather-light harmonies brush past your ears, breathing sweet words of romance. The track is lifted off their upcoming debut album Komorebi, set for release on September 20th.
Listening to the track feels like immersing yourself into an intimate experience, with each subtle complexity adding to the overall hush atmosphere that brings the magic. As undertones of synths pulsate to gliding vocals, just close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by slenderbodies.
Explaining the track more, the duo says:
It’s one of those songs that wrote itself, concept and music. In closing out the record, almost as an afterward if Komorebi was a book, we decided to personify nature. it’s a neat perspective because, in terms of the story, we’re sitting in nature, but every “you” is referring to nature itself. we wanted to convey how in love we are with nature and the world at large that inspired this record.
Feeling smitten by the tranquility of the track, we chatted to the duo a little more about the record and themselves in general.
What’s a motto you live by?
I think in general, communication is key. This enters into our art and collaboration in that we always try to be transparent with our creative process and with each other. In light of Komorebi, one motto we kind of coined is “wait until it’s done”. Essentially this just reminds us to be present and be our best selves through the process of life to judge how things turn out.
If our sound had a colour, what colour would it be?
We always feel like our sound is a spectrum, but Komorebi is definitely some lush earth tones.
If you could set Komorebi to a movie, which movie would it be the soundtrack to?
Komorebi is kind of intended to be the soundtrack of our lives. However ‘Into The Wild’ or ‘Mr. Nobody’ could be good options.
You mentioned that away from you would be an afterword if the album were a book, what book would the album be?
Not sure if we could pinpoint a book outside of the book of our own lives as a direct tie in to the album, but if you were looking for a thought provoking recommendation that sits with our morale check out “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” by Robert M. Pirsig!
What’s a piece of music that achieves the effect that you want away from you to have on your listeners?
If you could find a nice middle ground between Ben E Kings Stand by me and The weeknd’s i feel it coming, that would be it!
And finally, what does music mean to you?
Music for us is many things, and separate things for each of us individually. It’s escape, it’s release, it’s a haven and it’s a great purpose.
