A week later from the first single Simmer release and following its interlude video, the Paramore lead singer unveils the next chapter of her upcoming solo debut album, PETALS FOR ARMOR, alongside its intimate and eerie music video. Tackling the themes of grief, hurt, and healing, Williams is taking us through her emotional journey of her grandmother’s ‘almost’ loss. “Well, everybody around me is dying / Now that I finally wanna live / The ones I love are dying”, she croons.

Speaking about the new track on Beats 1, Hayley Williams explained:

My family went through something insane in the middle of… I’m working. I’m doing all this work on childhood stuff and traumas, and I’m terrified of losing people obviously. And my Nana, who was my mom’s mother, had this terrible fall. And it was right after, it was the day after… Her and I share a birthday. She’s 50 years older than me, so she’s 81 now. The day after her 80th, my 30th, she fell like all the way down my mom’s stairs and [suffered] head trauma. Like the kind of thing that we had said goodbye to her. Right? And in a weird twisted… The weirdest thing is that she got better, but it prolonged the grief because she’s not really here with us. She doesn’t really remember everything. Thankfully she knows who I am, she knows who my mom is, but she really doesn’t. It was so tough and felt like there was a lot of death at the time.

Following the same footsteps as its predecessor, the single maintains the project’s dark and mysterious vibe, only this time with a looser and warmer approach. Very similar to the sounds of Radiohead, Leave It Alone is layered over a very beautiful and balanced mix of electronic and acoustic sounds, captivating peaceful drum beats and a continuous slick bass line in the background, all accompanied once again by Hayley’s heavenly intimate and crisp vocals.

A dark personal story which, unlike Simmer, it comes with a bright visually astonishing music video directed once again by Warren Fu. Simple, yet surreal, the video takes from where the previous interlude left off, by opening with the same heavy breathing as Hayley wakes up, but this time in a part-human, part-butterfly form trying to escape from its cocoon.

A few days go by after the video release and we are introduced to the single’s interlude video. Hayley is awake and has emerged from her cocoon in a full human form. Struggling to get up, she crawls across the room and turns hers and our attention towards the noises behind a locked door – will the next chapter be behind it?

Leave It Alone will be part of Williams’ upcoming solo debut album, PETALS FOR ARMOR, out on May 8th.
