WALLOWS Question If You Are ‘OK’ in Their Newest Single
In a time of uncertainty, the newest single from Wallows seems as fitting as ever as they ask ‘can we get up and try to feel okay again?’.
Indie trio Wallows share their first new material of the year in the form of catchy new single OK, and despite all that is happening in the world right now, you cannot help but feel OK after listening to the song.
The track sees the band building on the whimsical sound that listeners know and love, but simultaneously pushes the group’s musical evolution as they incorporate fresh electronic beats amongst other creative flairs. Taking a risk and leaping with it as they play around with disjointed, robotic vocals, there’s a human confusion and questioning centring all of the electronic textures as the band explore themes of romantic insecurities. However, there is one thing that is crystal clear throughout; the glimmer of optimism that refuses to fade and grows into a hopeful affirmation that no matter what happens, we will all be OK at the end.
Explaining the influences behind the track, the band further shares:
‘OK’ is a song about insecurities in a relationship; having a hard time accepting something that feels “too good to be true”, but overall learning to embrace it and accept the love you’re receiving and focusing on returning it. Now, given the state of the world and the health crisis we happen to be in at the time of the song’s release, we feel like the main line/hook of the song, “Can we get up and try to feel okay again?”, sort of takes on a new meaning/purpose itself for people at this moment in time. The thought that no matter where we are or how alone/lost we feel right now, we can get up again and try to feel OK. We’re in it together.
