PREMIERE // NEON ISLANDS Unveil Nostalgic Video for ‘MOON’
With a faded, warm colour scheme that teases the same feeling of nostalgia as the song does, the music video for MOON brings the track to life from a different dimension.
Alternative-indie quartet Neon Islands follow up on their recent release MOON with a music video that is every bit as heartfelt and contemplative as the track. Although it doesn’t aim to be theatric and dazzling with a host of effects and convoluted storylines, it manages to hit the spot in its simplistic yet direct delivery, as the band pour their hearts out into an emotive performance of the song. Allowing your whole focus to be directed on the emotional torrent underpinning the track, and offering a glimpse of the deeper parts of the band’s psyche through a myriad of zoomed in shots, it brings an even closer affinity between the band and the listener as the song plays on.
Sharing more on the lyrical inspiration behind the track, the band explains:
‘MOON’ explores the deep challenges that come from the day-to-day routine of a long-distance relationship. The main theme of the song is the confusion generated by the sadness of being apart. Starting a long-distance relationship is like going through a breakup, except for the fact that the lovers are actually trying to salvage the relationship, not to end it. Other than that, all the feelings are exactly the same. The temptations and distractions of their trivial routines make the lovers become strangers “It’s strange how we’re becoming strangers so soon.” With an addictive vocal melody and an unforgettable synth-infused chorus, ‘MOON’ is drawn in contemporary pop- rock rhythms that will make everyone dance.
