SPINN Release Pounding New Single ‘Billie’ feat. CHRISTIE SIMPSON
Teaming up with vocalist Christie Simpson, SPINN craft a spine-tingling energy for their upcoming EP with first release Billie.
Liverpool quartet SPINN have described themselves as ‘four #approachablelads writing jangle bangers for the masses’, and there’s no better way we would sum up their infectious sound. Carrying an irresistible energy within their melodies and charged instrumentals, it’s hard not to jam out to the fuzzy guitars and rhythmic basses that form the backbone of the tracks, and particularly not when it sounds as good as their newest single Billie. Their new single is the first to be lifted from the band’s upcoming EP, due for release later this year, and it sets an exciting precedent for what’s to come.
Teaming up with the lead singer of Yumi Zouma, Christie Simpson, a chorus of mellifluous vocals melt into one another and creates a shimmering texture. Sharing more about the collaboration, lead singer Johnny Quinn confesses:
I’ve been a fan of Yumi Zouma for a while, so I was made-up when Christie agreed to sing with me. We’ve only met once and I was really nervous as I’m such a big fan, but she was really great and chatty. I was blown away when I heard her sing ‘Billie’ in the studio and after a year of not touring, I was almost embarrassed to sing along with her – she blew me out the water!
Set against this glimmering sound, the band explores the pressing topic of setting impossible relationship standards, and Johnny elaborates:
With social media there is a lot of pressure on us and our relationships to be ideal; but obviously neither of these things are perfect – that’s what Billie is about. It’s somebody who is reflecting on a relationship that’s ended and realising that it wasn’t perfect and nor are they. They’re coming to an understanding that no matter how hard we try, our lives don’t always work out the way we plan. There’s a good life lesson in there, somewhere.
