NIGHTSHIFT Face Their Fears With ‘Crazy’
Using juxtaposed melodies and meanings, Nightshift explore what it feels like to go Crazy.
Brothers Dan and Steve are the minds behind Columbus-based duo Nightshift. In the short time they’ve been a band, the pair have been throwing singles at us like there’s no tomorrow, showing off their unique electro-pop/rock sound. Their latest venture, and fifth release of 2021, is Crazy.
Not what you expect to hear from a song about the feeling of going crazy is upbeat pop beats from the get-go, but it definitely packs a punch. Nightshift have used this juxtaposition of upbeat melodies and self-deprecating meanings to add a punch of hope to the track – this is just the beginning of them and they’re refusing to give up. Crazy is a little bit of a kick in the teeth, perhaps the motivation you need to keep striving at something you think isn’t going to succeed, and it gives you that boost whilst making you want to dance, too.
On the single, Nightshift commented:
‘Crazy’ describes the emotion and physical low point my brother and I had as a band, struggling with self-doubt, and how ultimately realising giving in was not an option. We took some time to lick our wounds and recover, and when we did, we realised that whether or not we find meaningful “success,” this is who we are. If the doors won’t open, we’re going to fucking kick them down.
