GIRLI Shares Passionate New Single ‘Dysmorphia’

Speaking on a misleading sense of self and unrealistic body goals, Dysmorphia is the latest from pop powerhouse GIRLI.

GIRLI 2021

The pop powerhouse drenched in pink, more formally known as GIRLI, is quickly becoming one of the faces of London’s alt-pop scene. From the angsty, feminist Hot Mess, to the queer, proud More Than A Friend, GIRLI has always spoken her mind, touching on sexuality, mental health, and societal issues in her music. Following on the pattern nicely, her latest track is titled Dysmorphia.

A beating, electro-pop anthem, Dysmorphia uses otherworldly melodies and pulsing vocals to shed light on GIRLI’s battle with body dysmorphia; not recognising the person you see in the mirror from day-to-day, and being your own worst critic is something a scary amount of the population can relate to. Quite a sensitive, taboo topic, it is tackled in classic GIRLI style, with an irresistible, danceable beat in the back.

On the track, GIRLI commented:

It’s basically me trying to explain how it feels to have a warped vision of myself to someone who doesn’t understand. There’s so much misconception and misunderstanding about eating disorders and body dysmorphia, and a lot of the time people think they can advise you on how to get away from the incessant self-hating thoughts, when they have no idea what you’re going through.
