POPPY Shares Music Video for New Single ‘Her’
A montage of electrifyingly guitar riffs and Poppy’s quintessential screaming vocals, Her is yet another example of Poppy’s effortless ability to transform genres.
Her is Poppy’s third major release in the short span of five weeks, following her cover of Jack Off Jill’s Fear Of Dying and the surprise drop EP EAT (NXT Soundtrack). Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Her was recorded live to tape by Poppy and her band, which provides the song with an organic warmth and touch of personality to kickstart Poppy’s new musical era.
The unapologetic single packs a lyrical punch with the feminist-driven lyricism “And what have you learned? / The girl that you knew / Will never be yours,” and these impactful words are intensified by the equally powerful sonics.
The provocative single is accompanied by a mesmerizing music video, created by stop motion animator/director Chris Ullens, who has worked with the likes of Rex Orange County and Lee Ann Womack. Impossible to look away from, the animated visuals depict identical female robots being created, in order to perform for a mysterious, superior figure, before they are ultimately destroyed by their superior.
Reflective of everything she is achieving as a musician, such as when she was the first solo female artist to be nominated in the Grammys Best Metal Performance category, Poppy has created an unforgettable feminist anthem with Her.
