CONAL KELLY Shares Upbeat New Offering ‘Really Don’t Like You’

You won’t be able to resist the charming allure of Really Don’t Like You, the newest track from Conal Kelly.

Conal Kelly

Bristol-based musician Conal Kelly is a force to be reckoned with; having fronted an indie-pop act and featured on Spotify playlists, it’s fair to say that each of these could be recognised in their own right. It’s brought together under Conal’s solo project, as he refuses to be pigeonholed into a genre and is instead dedicated to simply creating music that sounds good. His newest release, Really Don’t Like You, will see parts of his experience coming out alongside a mix of his wide-ranging music tastes, with the result of an irresistibly charming sound.

A cocktail of energised beats and upbeat guitars provide the perfect bed to Conal’s high vocals, before a cheeky bass melody slides in to take over parts of the chorus for an irresistible draw. A rhythmic groove will keep you hooked on, and some syncopation can be found within the accompaniment for a further dose of feel-good fun. While the lyrics may seem a bit dark at first, it gives off a carefree feeling that matches the summery sound of the track, and Conal further elaborates:

To put it simply, this is a song about disliking someone for no apparent reason. I feel it’s quite a relatable subject, where something about a person’s behaviour just grates on you… in my case, clearly, enough to write a three-and-a-half-minute pop song about it. I managed to write and record the whole thing from start to finish on my own in 48 hours, and it really opened the floodgates for a bunch of other music that followed. So in that sense, I owe this song (and the annoying people it’s written about) a thank you… but I somehow doubt I’ll be reaching out to let them know.
