‘In The Spotlight’ offers the chance to get to know the acts we are most excited for in 2021.

Claire Rosinkranz

You’ve heard about some of the artists that we’re most excited for this year. Now, get ready to hear from the artists themselves as we shine a spotlight on their personality, the year just past, and their most anticipated musical artists. This week, we catch up with Claire Rosinkranz, the Southern California singer, songwriter, ballerina, and multi-instrumentalist who continues to charm listeners with her diaristic approach to songwriting as she shares her sophomore EP, 6 Of A Billion.

Offering an insightful glimpse into the emotional fluidity and maturity of her work, the 17-year-old phenomenon shapes Gen Z anthems with an edge. Underscored with unfiltered thoughts and lyrical twists, Rosinkranz’s music celebrates friendship and family bonds and touches upon themes of vulnerability and infatuation. With a love of poetry, her lyricism truly shines through and adds a visual quality and even more vibrancy to her already dazzling pop aesthetics, cementing Rosinkranz as a refreshingly genuine voice in the indie-pop world.

Filled with radio-ready pop hooks and soulful thrills, 6 Of A Billion creates a myriad of moments of summer oblivion and affection. Boy In A Billion is a delightful blend of emotive vocals and subtle instrumentation combined with an electronic groove and tasty bass, whilst Frankenstein and Hotel showcase a more playful side to Rosinkranz’s songwriting. Sweetly melancholic and forlorny personal, Fall Apart is a pop stunner that is sure to tug at your heartstrings. Having amassed over half-a-billion total streams within a year, Claire Rosinkranz is just getting started and we can’t wait to witness her rise even higher.

What’s integral to the work of an artist?

It sounds stupid but you HAVE to love and connect with the music you make otherwise everything else will be miserable.

Are there any behind-the-scenes stories of recording your new EP, 6 Of A Billion, that you can share with us?

Originally “boy in a billion” wasn’t gonna be on the EP. When I was writing the song I got a little stuck so I thought I’d call my dad down to help me. I set up my phone on the piano to make sure I captured any good ideas (which we did) and once it was recorded I posted a snippet to TikTok. TikTok blew it up so that’s when I decided it would go on the EP.

How would you describe the project to someone at a dinner party that’s never heard of you?

The EP name “6 of a billion” was kinda inspired by one of the songs on the EP, “boy in a billion”. But it’s mainly the idea that these are six songs of a billion that I would like to release.

What advice would you give to your pre-lockdown self?

Enjoy the process.

How would you sum up your 2020 in one sentence?

I am very VERY lucky to be able to say that it was one of the best years for me.

Name one thing you can’t imagine your life without.

My fam.

What is the most useless talent you have?

Literally I don’t have any good secret talents unfortunately :/

What are your hopes and dreams for the next 12 months?

I WANT TO PERFORM and meet y’all in person !!!!!!!

Which artists excite you the most this year?

I’m really excited to watch other artists that have had similar experiences to me that I’ve discovered on TikTok. The first person from that crowd that comes to my mind tho is Tai Verdes.

And finally, what does your music say about you?

Basically all of my music is written by only me so whatever I’m saying in those songs are probably things that I am currently feeling and going through. My music is pretty much my personal diary except I don’t keep it to myself.
