KID DAD Share Visuals for New Single ‘Apartment’
“A muse on love and loss,” Apartment is the colourful new single from KID DAD.
These four young Germans – Max Zdunek, Marius Vieth, Michael Reihle, and Joshua Meinert – are the faces behind alt-pop band, KID DAD. They formed in 2016 and have, for the last 5 years, been exploring and attempting to perfect their sound. In 2020, KID DAD released In A Box, the debut album, that now stands as the end of an era; they’ve just finished one chapter and are ready for a whole new book. We’re introduced to this new side of the band with their latest single, and first release of 2021, Apartment.
What is doused in colour and hope on the exterior, is a song with a more sombre meaning; inspired by the loss of a loved one at the end of a summer romance, and the huge change that ensues in the protagonists’ life. This bright indie pop track features an addictive guitar solo and bouncy beats, with Marius’ sweet vocals overlaying. The repetitive chants of “I can say I’m okay,” provide an uplifting feeling: KID DAD are telling us that it really does get better, and the yellow will return to your life.
On the single, Marius shared:
In the summer of 2019, I lived on the same street as my girlfriend. Every time I left my house, I could see the yellow curtain that hung in front of her window. It was kind of a constant that stabilized my life. At the end of the summer, she moved to the other end of the world and the curtain disappeared with her – worse, it was replaced by a blue one. The constant was replaced by a daily reminder that she was gone.
