Live: THOMAS HEADON // Heaven, London
Melbourne-raised Thomas Headon celebrates a homecoming success at two sold-out shows at iconic London venue Heaven.
The alt-pop singer-songwriter returned to his native land to pursue music after spending 14 years abroad. Despite the unfortunate pre-pandemic timing, his following multiplied steadily as he grew popular on TikTok and his songs amassed 50 million streams globally. While many artists made the difficult decision to delay releases during the lockdown, Headon strayed in the opposite direction, releasing his first two EPs in the span of six months in 2020. And with a third EP under way, he shows no signs of slowing down.
At Reading & Leeds this year where he played his first UK festival, he met Sigrid and earned the coveted support slot on her Spring 2022 tour across the UK and the rest of Europe. Four reschedules later, his much-anticipated headline tour brought hordes of frenzied fans into the underground London club, where they sang along to every word of his songs such as Nobody Has To Know and Butterflies. “I promise you know the words to this one” came the words from Headon’s mouth as he broke into a cover of Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
The red balloons that appeared seemingly out of nowhere accompanying his most recent single Strawberry Kisses continued to be propelled overhead as the crowd bounced to a cover of Song 2 by Blur. It was evident they were entirely dazzled by Thomas’ energy and presence by the time he closed with Clean Me Up and the confetti exploded across the room during UrbanAngel1999. Vibe check passed and internet domination in hand, Headon is undoubtedly set on a star-bound trajectory.
