SKOFEE Looks Inward in New Single ‘Polished’
On Polished, Skofee’s inner monologue is showing and it’s embarrassingly relatable.
Intrusive self-doubt and judgements are all too common, but a new generation of musicians is making it acceptable to talk about it. Pop up-and-comer, Skofee, puts these thoughts to paper in her new single, Polished. Taking gritty, minimalistic guitars, a sprinkling of synths, and a deep, pulsating beat, she creates the perfect foundation for her anthem. Her unique, warm voice flirts with a vintage auto-tune effect used solely for the cool style it makes, not to replace substance or quality. The video adds additional pointed commentary to Polished. Viewers see Skofee built up into the “ideal” image only to watch her strip back to her personal style. This show of acceptance speaks volumes, finally making the hand-sketched ‘I’m OK’ notes filtered throughout the video a sincere statement.
Detailing Polished, Skofee said:
‘Polished’ is about constantly coming up short and wondering if your legacy is going to be a collection of ‘what if’s’. I wrote this song after a frustrating few hours of trying to songwrite and coming up with nothing. Once I took a step back and started addressing the negative thoughts bubbling in my subconscious the song came easily. I hope listeners can relate, and also see the importance of being kind to themselves through any self-doubt.
