PSYENCE Return With New Single ‘Retrospect’
Unflinching in its confident approach, Retrospect is the brazen reminder that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

Following on from the release of Tusk, alternative rock band Psyence continue sharpening their musical style and building their presence with rousing new single Retrospect. The Stoke-on-Trent five-piece embodies the strong working class ethic and self-motivation that heavily features from this part of the UK, and has woven it into an urgent sound that will be hard to ignore. Whether it’s the soaring, expansive vocals, or the demanding guitar accompaniment, the band commands your focus and directs your attention to the same issues capturing their mind. Tinged with influences from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Foo Fighters and other similar outfits, the band exudes much of the same drive with their own twist on the melody.
In Retrospect, the band starts with the tale of a broken relationship before widening the moral to explore how to find hope in times of darkness – a particularly fitting metaphor for current COVID times. Elaborating upon this, bassist Jay Bellingham comments:
Everyone gets down, everyone gets fed up, but this is an anthem to make you think back and realise, it’s not all that bad. A bitter end can also be a new beginning.
