SHIMA Teams Up With CALICA for ‘Don’t Wanna Die Young’
SHIMA and Calica reflect on toxic relationships in their electro-pop delight Don’t Wanna Die Young.

Having studied music together in college, Japanese-American singer and producer SHIMA has joined forces with Calica for the infectious new cut Don’t Wanna Die Young. An all-female production from start to finish, the track was written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by SHIMA and Calica.
With a summery quality to the sound, the song glistens with bouncy beats, fluttering synths and dreamy vocals gliding over a full texture. Don’t Wanna Die Young is filled with electro-pop thrills and radio-ready hooks, but it’s the juxtaposition of the heavier lyrical theme with blissful melodies that leaves the most lasting impression. It’s a song designed for dance floors as well as moments of deep introspection.
Speaking on the new single, SHIMA shares:
The song is a commentary on the “live fast die young” mentality that plagues the music industry, and how easily you can get sucked into it via fun and wild yet careless and toxic people.
